Cheldi We were referred to Dr Alid by Dr Gomez, our doctor treating my granddaughter for scoliosis. This referral was because a neurological component to her scoliosis was suspected and Doctor Alid was recommended for having special insights and talents that could bring together a more complete approach to her treatment. To tell the truth I had no idea what to expect. We contacted Dr Alid from Honduras where we live. I had never received such a prompt, concerned and thorough reply from a doctor before. I believe our first communication was on Christmas Eve! And the fact that anyone would take time out to reply like that sealed my suspicion that we were dealing with a totally dedicated and passionate person.

We travelled to Tampa. The appointment was for Giuliana but we immediately realised our own health issues could be addressed by him too. So Giuliana, myself and my daughter in law, Gina, were evaluated. The evaluation was a two part examination by a questionnaire and then a detailed neurological examination. I have been examined countless times by neurologists and just a small fraction of these reflexes and points had ever been checked before. I still find it incredible that so much information is gleaned from these examinations. The amount of time and the thoroughness dedicated to each of us was something I have never seen before. This information was then studied in depth until Dr Alid felt he had understood each case.

Immediately we started with therapeutic sessions. With Giuliana being our priority we were expecting a series of physical exercises to be prescribed. To our total surprise we discovered that a totally different approach is what she needs and she was started on oxygen therapy as a boost to neuronal communication. Stimulation to her nerve pathways was initiated through complex exercises that didn’t look like anything I had seen before and certainly not the usual muscle building and stretches she had been doing. Adjustments to skeletal alignment have been made throughout, opening up space for pathways which were squeezed. The improvement was astonishing. Immediate and quantified abilities to balance and posture, that weren’t there before. The control of her toes and feet which had been bunched up and unable to provide small controlling movements to her posture was totally visible.

Giuliana has always been very immature for her age and has a myriad of seemingly unrelated skeletal and health problems. I didn’t suspect at the beginning that finding ways neurologically to promote brain health would totally change her emotional health and maturity. A very strict diet was prescribed for her. It was very hard at first but after a week she started to accept it and two weeks down the road to totally enjoy it. So we learned that Doctor Alid, as we affectionately call him, is not only a totally awesome neurologist but also a totally awesome nutritionist. Every session Giuliana was reevaluated and challenged in a loving and caring manner to push to her limits her capacity to control her body and mind. The scoliosis curves, hump, bad posture and balance improved so rapidly that it seems miraculous.

Doctor Alid approaches medical care in a totally different way. You may say holistically but that isn’t the whole thing. He sees the body as being under the control of the brain...all it’s systems. Usually a doctor sees a section of your body and labels it with ailments that have names. His approach is evident immediately by considering the body as a sum of all it’s systems and treating them together, never looking for labels or pushing things into boxes. He believes that when we suffer from a pathology and seek medical help we need to seek to conquer the pathology and progress from illness to health and then to fitness.

My own experience with Doctor Alid is no less amazing than Giuliana’s. I have suffered for years from an affliction that at times becomes so debilitating as to cause a hospital stay and medication to keep myself able to function. To try and describe it is to say that at times I take a choice between closing my eyes to visual stimulus or not being able to talk or even move sometimes. I have seen countless ophthalmologists, neurologists and rheumatologists who all hit a wall when looking to put my “thing” into a box and prescribe strong medications that have side effects and don’t do a thing to make me well. Doctor Alid approached it in a different way. He has such a huge knowledge of the brain that to see him in action analysing how to open, enforce and strengthen neuronal pathways is a wonder in itself. Again chiropractic adjustments to parts of my neck and spine that apparently weren’t where they should be, was a daily part of the process. I experienced such varied resources as, color therapy to stimulate different areas of the brain, targeted aromatherapy, even a metronome to enforce one exercise.

The diet is a big part of getting well. Supplements were prescribed to all of us. I experienced a feeling in my gut about ten days into the therapy that I can only describe as filling up with life. I felt energized and ready for anything. After a week I decided to stop taking my medication and see what would happen. This was the best thing I could have done. I immediately went into what I call my blind mode because light and visual stimulus would rob me off the power to walk around. Doctor Alid examined me at that point and started simple exercises to open pathways in my brain. After several days of feeling my brain was short circuiting it became more specific as I did certain things. The exercises continued and I was less and less controlled by the zinging in my head and feeling I was falling off the planet. All this time our diet was becoming more enjoyable to us. Three weeks in and I am in control of my life. I had lived in fear of having to seek medical help for my condition and being labelled as crazy and becoming non functional and a burden on my family. I am now not striving for a label or a box and a magical pill that can make me better. Thanks to Doctor Alid I know my brain can heal itself. Oh and as an added bonus my paper thin nails are growing strong.

Gina’s story is another one. She has struggled for years with shoulder and neck pain and lately with hypothyroidism. Being an ex ballet dancer and fitness buff she was becoming saddened that challenging her body was less and less part of her life due to the pain and issues she thought were being controlled by her unhealthy thyroid. The neurological testing revealed to Doctor Alid that her problems were stemming from her gut and improper breathing. Her neck was pathologically out of alignment. She already knew this but had been told there was nothing to be done. Wrong...Doctor Alid made daily adjustments and prescribed exercises that within a week had diminished her pain.

The diet was an eye opener for Gina. She thought she was eating very healthily but now her gut was feeling better. One of the striking things about Doctor Alid’s approach to healing is that he wants you to fully understand the whys and wherefores. He gets out his markers and whiteboard and explains in detail until he is sure you get it. The brain explained. When did a doctor ever explain in detail the anatomy of the brain, the nerves, where they go and what they do and how they do it. It becomes so apparent that we have misunderstood our body’s signals all along. Gina’s breathing was distressing her body and her daily therapy includes lots of breathing exercises. After a couple of weeks we enjoyed a glass of wine. We knew we shouldn’t have but figured one little mistake wouldn’t be the end of the world. We should have listened closer, anyway, Gina got a migraine. Doctor Alid did acupuncture for relief. I had never seen it before. I could see the pain leave her face. Within twenty minutes she was feeling better. She took a nap and was good as new. Now that was magic.

As I said before, the realization that Doctor Alid’s approach from the brain down covers it all, I asked my husband (at this point overseas) if he was willing to put his health under Doc Alid’s care. He filled out the questionaire and sent it back. My husband has had high blood pressure for decades and already has had several scary health problems. He takes half a dozen pills a day and we still feel frustrated when his cardiologist and his neurologist aren’t on the same page with his medication. Again we were going down the road of trying to find the right label for an ailment and surely there would be the right drug to cure it. Definitely not happening. There would always be another drug to add to the stew. So he has started drastic dietary changes and supplements. Oh and something I forgot to mention...hydration. This was totally not part of my life. I was a five cups of coffee a day person...where was there a break in that for some water to creep in? I did it cold turkey. It was not so much the not having coffee as drinking all that water that was hard. During this time the oxygen therapy we were having helped the withdrawal, I shall never look back. In summary, I have had an education on how to look after my body and my mind. Not a single doctor I have ever met had those goals for my care...to educate me, thoroughly, about the whys and wherefores and to leave a seed of education to be passed on to those I love.
